Description
This collection includes handwritten and typed versions of George Donaghey's account of an 1899 meeting of the Arkansas Board of State Capitol Commissioners.
Biographical/Historical Note
On January 12, 1899, Senate Concurrent Resolution 3 was introduced, calling for the construction of a new capitol building. The House adopted the resolution, and Governor Daniel Webster Jones signed it into law on February 13, 1899. In March, the General Assembly enacted Act 128, allocating $50,000 to hire an architect and begin the project.
