This invitation is for a reception honoring United States Senator James Walker.
Biographical/Historical Note
James David Walker was born in Kentucky in 1830. He moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas, in 1847 to study law, and lived with Judge David Walker and his family. In 1857, James married Judge Walker's daughter, Mary. During the Civil War, James served in the Confederate Army as colonel in the Fourth Regiment, Arkansas Infantry, until captured at the Battle of Wilson's Creek. James signed an oath of allegiance after a year of imprisonment and spent the remainder of the war in Texas. The Walkers returned to Fayetteville after the war and James was elected to the United States Senate in 1879. He served only one term and died in 1906.
