Description

This collection contains the Civil War reminiscences of Martha McAlmont as she remembered them in 1904 and 1905. Her contributions to the war effort, nursing wounded soldiers, living without many necessities, the occupation of Little Rock by Union troops, and the hanging of David O. Dodd are all included.

Biographical/Historical Note

Martha Jane Gregg, of New York, married John McAlmont in 1845, and they moved to Arkansas in 1850. John was a druggist, and they established a home in Little Rock in 1852, where they remained the rest of their lives. The couple had two daughters, Myra and Cresida.
