This letter written by John C. Saylors informs Governor James S. Conway of the resignation of James F. Smalley.

Biographical/Historical Note

James F. Smalley was born in 1807 to Joseph and Mary Smalley. In December of 1833, he signed the Petition to Congress by Inhabitants of the Arkansas Territory on public lands. He was a farmer and served as the Justice of the Peace for Oil Trough Township, Jackson County, Arkansas, between November of 1838 and October of 1839.
