This is a typescript of a journal kept by Mary Ann Owen Sims which includes family history and daily events.
Biographical/Historical Note
Mary Ann Owen Sims was born August 1, 1830, to William Addison Owen and Ann Rucks. William and Ann had several children: Josiah, James, Mary Ann, Josephine, and William. Owen moved the family from Tennessee to Clark County, Arkansas, in 1838. He served as the Clark County representative,1844-1845, and was the first Dallas County Judge in 1845. He died November 18, 1846. Mary Ann married Dr. John D. Sims on July 8, 1847, in Dallas County. Sims was born in 1820 in Lawrence District, South Carolina, and grew up in Alabama. He moved to Arkansas around 1844 to 1845. Mary and John had three children: William Harvey, Josephine Castera, and Mary Louella. William was born November 26, 1848, and became a physician in Dallas County. He married Bettie Francis Knight and had several children. He died September 22, 1921. Josephine Castera was born June 4, 1850. She married William Langley House (1846-1926). She died July 7, 1916. Mary Louella was born January 25,1853. She died before reaching adulthood. John Sims died June 26, 1855, after a lengthy illness, leaving Mary Ann with three small children. It is unknown when Mary Ann died.
