This collection contains Mortimer Platt's appointment certificate for judge of the probate court of Phillips County, Arkansas, due to L.H. Mangum's disqualification.
Biographical/Historical Note
This document, signed by Isaac Murphy, appointed Mortimer Platt as judge of Phillips County probate court. Murphy became governor of "Union" Arkansas after Union forces captured Little Rock in September 1863. In the Spring of 1868, Arkansas was on the verge of Reconstruction, and Murphy was about to be replaced as governor by a former Union cavalry officer, Powell Clayton.
