Description

This collection contains twenty-four Civil War letters written by Nathaniel Pierce; one 1862 letter written by his superior officer, W.F. Stofford, to Pierce's mother; and one written by Pierce after the war.

Biographical/Historical Note

Nathaniel Pierce was a Union soldier, who joined the 14th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry in Toledo, Ohio, on August 26, 1861, at the age of fifteen. He served as a musician in Company G and mustered out in July 1865. He participated in numerous engagements, including the Chattanooga and Atlanta campaigns. The majority of his letters are to his mother, Sarah Pierce.
