Description
This document is a contract for laborers to convey cargo on keelboats to New Orleans or other suitable market for trade. The specific nature of the cargo is unclear.

Article of Agreement Between William Harris
& William Wadsworth of the one part & proprietors of Flat Bottom Boats No. 1 & 2
now Riding at Anchor in Black River &
bound for New Orleans or Market whereof William
Wadsworth is taken Cargo for this present
Voyage and William Hodge Squire
Pevyhouse Francis Pierce & John Cureton
on the other part Witnesseth that the
said William Hodge Squire Pevyhouse
Francis Pierce & Jno Cureton obligates &
binds themselves to do the duty of boat
hands to N. Orleans (or such place as market may be made of sd cargo)
on board of the aforesaid
boats. And to Return in and
perform the duties of boat hands in a
keel & thus claim for which the said Harris
& Wadsworth binds themselves to pay to
each of the aforesaid hands the sum
of twenty five dollars per month from the
date hereto and if either Hodge Pevyhouse
Pierce or Cureton when they arrive at N
Orleans & are discharged from
the employment of the sd Harris & Wadsworth
in such case the said Harris & Wadsworth
is bound to pay each and every such hand
the sum of fifty dollars for his trek to
N Orleans.
