Letter from William Jones to Governor Isaac Murphy requesting permission to raise a company of volunteer militia in Crawford County.

Transcription

Little Rock Feb'y 6th 1865
To his Excellency Gov. Isaac Murphy
The undersigned
respectfully requests authority to raise a
company of Vol. Militia in this state to operate
for home defense in the County of Crawford.
He regards himself as a citizen of this state and
has been residing at Van Buren since
April 1864. He has married in this state[,]
desires to make Arkansas his home[,]
has had three years military expertise and
is prepared to apply it to the restoration of
order, the protection of Loyal Citizens and
their property - and the defense of his
own family. - He respectfully refers
to Dr. R. Thurston[,] W.F. England, Dr. [illegible]
H. Raymond
Arnold O'Brien and other citizens of Crawford
County. - William Jones
