Description

This bulletin includes news from Richmond and Memphis, as well as a proclamation from Brigadier General Benjamin McCulloch pledging to raise five new regiments and urging men from Arkansas, Texas, and Louisiana to join the Confederate Army. It also includes news from the North and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Biographical/Historical Note

During The Civil War, newspapers were some of the only sources of information about the events and happenings of the war. The papers would publish reports from correspondents regarding the outcomes of skirmishes and battles in other states, proclamations and decrees by military officials, local movements of troops, and ways civilians could contribute to the war effort.
