Description
This document is a notice posted by John L. Lafferty, stating he would be in court to settle the remaining accounts of his father, John Lafferty's estate.
Biographical/Historical Note
The Lafferty family was active in the settlement of early Lawrence County. Their settlement on Poke Bayou helped led to the foundation of Batesville, an early hub in Arkansas society. John L. Lafferty served as the administrator of his father's estate and posted this notice to alert the community to the settlement of affairs. The courthouse or public square often served as a regional hub and notices such as these were posted for general dissemination. The holes in this paper indicate that it may have hung on such a notice board at one point.
