Arkansas Civil Appointment records, 1819-1958

The Arkansas State Archives Civil Appointment Records collection spans 1819-1958 and covers appointed civil positions from counties throughout the state. The positions within these books include alderman, clerk, coroner, judge, notary, mayor, magistrate, recorder, school commissioner, sheriff, surveyor, treasurer, and others.

Only a small portion of the collection is currently digitized and available online. To view a full listing of the ledgers see the collection's [link to finding aid]. Please contact us at state.archives@arkansas.gov if you require more information regarding this collection.

The 69th General Assembly of Arkansas enacted Act 883 of 1973 to rebind and recondition these volumes.

The Arkansas Civil Appointment records finding aid is available in the finding aids section of this site.
