The Arkansas State Archives Civil Appointment Records collection spans 1819-1958 and covers appointed civil positions from counties throughout the state. The positions within these books include alderman, clerk, coroner, judge, notary, mayor, magistrate, recorder, school commissioner, sheriff, surveyor, treasurer, and others.

The 69th General Assembly of Arkansas enacted Act 883 of 1973 to rebind and recondition these volumes.
