Description
Bound journal kept by Capt. Henry Brockman during his time traveling through the South while fighting in the American Civil War.
Biographical/Historical Note
Henry Brockman was born in 1824 in Kentucky and moved to Missouri at a young age. He enlisted in the Confederate Army in July 1862 as a First Lieutenant and was promoted to Captain of Company K, Tenth Infantry Regiment, Second Missouri Brigade, also known as “Parson’s Brigade.” His unit served at Prairie Grove, Helena, and Little Rock, and was involved in many skirmishes in south Arkansas. Brockman was instrumental in the creation of a roaming Masonic lodge that traveled with the brigade. After the war, he returned to Missouri where he taught school for a short time before moving his family to Lincoln County, Arkansas.
