Townsend who ran the Townsend Abstracting and Law Firm. The business was located in Black Rock, Lawrence County, Arkansas, from 1915-1985.
Biographical/Historical Note
John Harvey Townsend served as a lawyer, abstractor, and a judge in Lawrence County, Arkansas, until his death in 1940. He established the Townsend Law Firm in Black Rock, Arkansas, which was later taken over by his son Percy William Townsend. Both men created numerous abstracts for plots of land around Lawrence County, including hand-drawn maps. They also provided legal advice and counsel on a variety of cases including debt, property disputes, and divorce. Townsend Law Firm closed with the death of Percy in 1985.
