This collection contains a discharge certificate for Oliver C. Atchison from 1865 and a letter from the U.S. Bureau of Pensions to Elizabeth Atchison from 1904 concerning a pension for Oliver C. Atchison.
Biographical/Historical Note
Oliver C. Atchison was born in 1843 in Ohio. He was a private in the Union army who enlisted on January 2, 1864. He was in Company A, 16th Regiment of Iowa Veteran Infantry Volunteers. He mustered out on June 7, 1865. He was married to Elizabeth or "Lizzie" Atchison. The two eventually moved to Malvern, Arkansas. Atchison was a potter, but soon began making bricks. His bricks were used in the construction of the Arlington Hotel in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He died on March 18, 1891. He and Elizabeth Atchison are both buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Malvern.
