Biographical/Historical Note
The Governor's Council on Human Resources was formed by Governor Rockefeller in 1967 after House Bill 604, which would have formed an official State Commission on the use of Human Resources was voted down in the state Senate after being approved in the Arkansas House of Representatives. According to the documents in this collection, its purpose was to improve to improve the economic climate in the state through improvement of human resources and employment opportunities in the state. Several committees were formed to identify problems and offer solutions to the governor. These committees included education, public employment, private employment, research and coordination, and public information. The committees examined ways to improve unemployment and match skilled individuals with opportunities in the state, make individuals more aware of employment opportunities; as well as other topics such as how to better prepare youth for employment.
