This collection consists of an account book and biographical material about W.P Fletcher and information concerning the Fletcher residence.
Biographical/Historical Note
William P. Fletcher was born on July 31, 1848, in Yazoo County, Mississippi, to Dr. John P. and Mary A. Fletcher. He established his home in Lonoke, Arkansas, in the fall of 1868. He taught the first two sessions of school ever held in Lonoke. Fletcher was elected mayor in the 1870s and held the office for one term. He served as sheriff of Lonoke County from 1878-1886. In 1886, he was elected to the twelfth district in the Arkansas State Senate. He served in the Senate until 1906. In 1906, he established a bank of Lonoke, for which he served as president. Fletcher married Ella A. Beard in 1882. Fletcher died on November 4, 1924.
