Biographical/Historical Note
This address was given by Mrs. A.W. Stevenson to the membership of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union (W.C.T.U.) to honor Mrs. P.G. Sheldon. The W.C.T.U was established in Arkansas during 1879; this organization advocated for the abstinence of alcohol in Aransas as well as supporting the state and national movements to prohibit the sale, manufacturing, and consumption of alcohol.
