Description

This collection includes the enlistment paper of William Clifton and the sworn statement of those who were with Letty Clifton when she gave her last will and testament.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Clifton family lived in Izard County, Arkansas, in 1850. The eldest son, William, joined the Arkansas Volunteer regiment at the dawn on the Civil War in 1861 as a sharpshooter. His mother, Letty, died in 1868 leaving all of her belongings to his sister, also named Letty.
