This collection contains genealogical information related to the Price family, with information dating to the earliest traces of the Price name in Wales during the tenth century, and continuing through descendants of Monsieur Price in the twentieth century.
Biographical/Historical Note
The Valentine Price family moved from Union County, North Carolina, in 1846, settling in Lawrence County, Arkansas, in 1849. Phillip Valentine (P.V.) Price, grandson of Valentine Price, was born April 21, 1874, to Wilson Price and Susan Ann Davis Price. Wilson Price owned a general merchandise store, served as postmaster, and owned a substantial amount of land in the Smithville area. Upon his death, P.V. Price became executor of the estate and substantially enhanced the value of the estate left to his minor siblings. Thomas J. Helms spent his early years in Lawrence County, Arkansas. He was head of the Department of Entomology at Mississippi State University, retiring in 2002. He has written extensively about Lawrence County and has been an integral part of the Arkansas Gravestones project.
