Biographical/Historical Note
The Raney family were among some of the earliest settlers of Lawrence County. One of William and Rebecca Wayland Raney's five children, Benjamin Davis Raney, was born in 1839. He married Susan M. Wooley in 1860 and they had four children, Cora B., Henrietta, John Ellis, and Augusta M. Ben D. Raney became an attorney, practicing in Powhatan, Arkansas, and residing in Strawberry. Before he died, Ben and Susan moved to Memphis in Shelby County, Tennessee, and resided there for some years.
