This collection includes pardons from Arkansas governors Jefferson Davis, Daniel W. Jones, and acting governor X.O. Pindall, between the years 1897 and 1908. The crimes being pardoned include carrying a pistol, selling liquor to a minor, selling liquor without a license, and attempted arson. The collection does not include information on court cases, communication with the accused or their attorneys, or any supporting documentation.

Biographical/Historical Note

This group of records is part of a larger collection formerly housed at the Powhatan Courthouse that was donated by the Lawrence County Historical Society in 2010. Governors have the power to pardon individuals who have committed crimes against the state. This collection includes county copies of pardons granted by governors Jefferson Davis, Daniel W. Jones, and X.O. Pindall.
