Biographical/Historical Note

Born in Georgia in 1884, Frances Lillian (F.L.) Blaisdell was Arkansas's first female cartographer. She and her family moved to Little Rock in 1911, where she established a map making business. In 1912, she published Blaisdell’s Wall Map of Little Rock, Argenta and Pulaski Heights. Between 1915 and 1919, she published many detailed maps of Arkansas. Blaisdell died in Little Rock in 1924, and is buried beside her father and mother in the Fort Smith National Cemetery.
