September 26, 1847 Chief Justice S. R. Cockrill, born in Nashville, Tenn., became soldier of Confederacy at age 16, came to Little Rock in 1870, elected chief justice in 1884 at age of 37.
Batesville Academy first in state was incorporated, Sept. 26, 1836.
