Luke Barber

Luke E. Barber was born 1806 in St. Mary's County Maryland… He practiced law in Maryland until 1836… Came to Arkansas and became a planter in Jefferson County… Member of the legislature 1838… Moved to Little Rock.

In 1845 Luke Barber was appointed clerk of the supreme court and held this position from 1845 until his death in 1886, with exception of period 1868 to 1874..

He was president of St. John's College, Little Rock... Was prominent in Masonic work and served as grand secretary of the grand lodge from 1869 to 1881...

He died June 13, 1886
