Description

These letters from Isaac Murphy were to a Mr. Evans, which contain information related to Murphy's surveying duties. A note and envelope from the donor are also included within the folder.

Biographical/Historical Note

Isaac Murphy (1799-1882) and his wife moved to Arkansas in 1834, settling at Fayetteville, where he became a land surveyor, lawyer, and teacher. Murphy was the only convention delegate to vote against secession before the Civil War, and later served as governor of Union-controlled Arkansas.
