This collection contains one letter dated 1838, concerning the sale of a horse and the method of payment.

Biographical/Historical Note

J.M. Morris was a resident of Desha County and held a commission as notary public. This correspondences regarding Morris’ offer to buy a horse from Levy Lile for forty dollars. The letter was written in 1838, the same year that Desha County was created by the Arkansas Legislature. Named after War of 1812veteran Captain Benjamin Desha, Desha County is separated from Arkansas and Chicot Counties by two major rivers, the Arkansas River and the White River.
