This collection contains early records for Lawrence County, including a census conducted by the sheriff in 1829.

Biographical/Historical Note

Lawrence County, known as the "Mother of Counties," was established in 1815 as part of the Missouri Territory. It predates the Territory of Arkansas, which was not created until 1819, and included parts of Missouri and Oklahoma. The county was one of the five original counties of Arkansas.
