Letter from Flippin to David Walker complimenting him on his recent speech on Arkansas history

Biographical/Historical Note

William B. Flippin was born in 1817 in Monroe County, Kentucky, to Thomas H. and Elizabeth BaughFlippin. In 1841, William married Agnes W. Adams in Izard County, Arkansas. They settled in Marion County, Arkansas, and had seven children: Thomas H., James A., John P., Elizabeth, Ella Jane, Letitia, and Matilda. Flippin was very active in local politics. He served as County Surveyor, 1838-1848 and 1852-1854;Justice of the Peace for several years; State Representative in 1854 and 1874; and County Judge,1864-1868. In 1877, he wrote a historical account of the Tutt and Everett War, which was later published in the Arkansas Historical Quarterly entitled "The Tutt and Everett War in Marion County."
