Description

This abstract of title was compiled by Beach Abstract and Guaranty Company of Little Rock, Arkansas.

Biographical/Historical Note

Benjamin DuVal, an early settler, owned property adjacent to Little Rock, Arkansas. This landholding was added to the city limits in 1872 and the resident paid city taxes as of April 28, 1873, as well as received the benefits of incorporation. In 1877, an act titled “An act to define the boundary line of the city of Little Rock” placed the new addition outside the city limits. The county fought against this act believing that jurisdiction to determine boundaries of a municipal corporation was for the courts, and not the legislature to determine. The courts ruled the act of 1877 unconstitutional and the DuVal's Addition was incorporated into the boundaries of the city of Little Rock, Arkansas, by ordinance on June 7, 1881.
