Description

This collection consists of a blue and gray envelope made from wallpaper, dating back to the Civil War era.

Biographical/Historical Note

During the duration of the Civil War Southern states developed a shortage of paper products. Southern states were no longer able to purchase stationery from Northern states and the Federal blockades blocked trade with foreign nations. Many individuals started to use any spare paper in order to make stationery and one of those sources was wallpaper.
