Biographical/Historical Note
The Arkansas Secession Convention met in March 1861 in Little Rock, Arkansas, to decide the fate of the state in relation to the Union. The convention dismissed after the first meeting with no action. They planned to re-convene on the first Monday of August. However, fighting at Fort Sumter, South Carolina, commenced in April, which forced the Secession Convention to reconvene in May, this time voting 69-1to secede from the Union.
