This collection contains the autobiography of Jerrus Madison Bryant and a letter written by him.

Biographical/Historical Note

Jerrus Madison Bryant was born November 8, 1845, to Reward W. and Mary Cummings Bryant. He served in Company I, 7th Wisconsin, enlisting as a private on June 1, 1863. He was wounded at Petersburg, Virginia, June 28, 1864. After the Civil War, he joined the regular army and served in Indian Territory. He aspired to attend West Point Academy, but his appointment came a month after he married, rendering him ineligible. He and his wife Abby Jane had several children. He died January 25, 1941, and is buried at the Little Rock National Cemetery in Little Rock, Arkansas.
