This collection contains 23 photocopied letters written to and from members of the Ball family.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Ball family includes several siblings, including William L. Ball, John S. Ball, Bennett B. Ball, Lucinda Ball Robison Smith, and Matilda Ball Welborn. William L. Ball married Cynthia and lived in Lewisburg, Washington County, Arkansas, where they raised several children. John S. Ball and his wife Mary resided in Atlas, Pike County, Illinois. Bennett B. Ball and his wife Ann lived in Pleasant Hill, Izard County, Arkansas, before moving to Shepherdsville, Bullitt County, Kentucky. They had several children. Lucinda Ball Robison lived in Washington County, Arkansas, with her first husband, in both Evansville and Lewisburg. They moved to Texas where Mr. Robison died in the 1840s. She later married a Smith and moved to Austin, Texas. Matilda L. Ball married Elijah Welborn and raised several children in Pleasant Hill, Arkansas. Letters are included from Nancy Ball and Jane Tucker, but the relationship between them and the other members of the Ball family is unclear.
