This collection contains a final report for the Haven of Rest Cemetery Commemorative Marker Project completed through the Curtis H. Sykes Memorial Grant Program. It also contains two copies of the commemorative marker and press releases related to the marker project.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Haven of Rest Cemetery Commemorative Marker Project was completed in order to research, design, and facilitate the production of a graveside bronze marker to commemorate the 21 victims of the Arkansas Negro Boys Industrial School fire who are buried at Haven of Rest Cemetery in Little Rock, Arkansas. The fire occurred on March 5, 1959. The marker memorializes those who lost their lives and serves to enhance public awareness and understanding of the tragedy.
