This collection contains both the program for the “Saving our Arkansas Heritage Summit” hosted by the Friends of the Arkansas State Archives on March 24, 2018 and the remarks made by Dr. Lisa Speer titled “Beyond Collections”.

Biographical/Historical Note

Dr. Lisa Speer holds a BA in History from Ouachita Baptist University, an MA and a PhD in American History from the University of Mississippi, and a Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of Alabama. She has worked as the interim curator in the collection at the University of Mississippi’s Archives and Special Collections, an archival technician at the University of Alabama’s William Stanley Hoole Library, and directed the Special Collections and Archives at Southeast Missouri State University. She was elected to the Council of State Archivists’ (CoSA) Board of Directors on August 5, 2016 with a term that lasted three years. Dr. Speer was hired at the Arkansas State Archives as the Arkansas State Historian in April of 2013. She resigned her position as head of the Arkansas State Archives on February 6, 2018. The mission statement of the Friends of the Arkansas State Archives states that they encourage and support the advancement of Arkansas history by assisting the Arkansas State Archives in fulfilling its mission. Dr. Speer spoke at the “Saving our Arkansas Heritage Summit” sponsored by the Friends of the Arkansas State Archives on March 24, 2018 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She spoke about the problems facing the Arkansas State Archives under the direction of the Department of Arkansas Heritage.
