This collection contains a proclamation from Governor Thomas Churchill setting aside July 14, 1881 as a day of fasting and prayer for the recovery of President James A. Garfield.

Biographical/Historical Note

James A. Garfield, the 20th President of the United States, was shot by Charles Guiteau on July 2, 1881. President Garfield died on September 19, 1881, from blood poisoning and bronchial pneumonia.
