This collection contains a memorial dedication for Judge Beaufort Neeley from the Independence County, Arkansas Bar Association, one Jefferson Davis Monument souvenir receipt for Esther (Neeley) Emmart, and a broadside for the Penrod's Museum in Lakeview, Arkansas with a listing of some of the material that was maintained in that repository.

Biographical/Historical Note

Beaufort Henry Neeley was born on December 4, 1809 in South Carolina. He married Margaret Frances Denton Desha on August 16, 1849 in Batesville, Arkansas. Beaufort and Margaret had four children before his death in 1858; one of those children was Esther Neeley. Esther married George Emmart, a Confederate veteran; both were laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery. Beaufort was a lawyer and a Judge for Independence County. He passed away on August 19, 1858 from a long term illness.
