This collection contains one piece of correspondence between Dr. Charles Willis Garrison and the Finsen Institute in Copenhagen.

Biographical/Historical Note

This correspondence is between Dr. Charles Willis Garrison, Arkansas’ first State Board of Health Director, and the Finsen Institute in Copenhagen, Denmark. Dr. Garrison was a professor at the College of Medicine teaching preventative medicine from 1913-1918 and 1922-1931. He belonged to multiple societies and organization that promoted medical treatments and good health, most notably the Arkansas Tuberculosis Association. The Finsen Institute for Phototherapy in Copenhagen was investigating the effects of light on disease. In this letter, Dr. Garrison was interested in learning about how light could have healing effects on tuberculosis patients.
