This collection consists of account books from Hutchinson's medical practice.
Biographical/Historical Note
David A. Hutchinson was a prominent physician in Howard County for over 50 years. He was born in Dadeville, Alabama, on December 27, 1848, and grew up in Georgia. Following the Civil War, his family moved to Columbia County, Arkansas. Hutchinson received his medical degree at Tulane University in 1872, and first practiced in Union County, and Hope in Hempstead County, before moving to Nashville in 1876. He was the first mayor of Nashville and served as director of the Nashville School District. Hutchinson was also the first in Nashville to purchase an automobile for professional use. He died on May 27, 1934.
