Description

This collection consists of two notebooks of Civil War era correspondence, lists, muster rolls, oaths of allegiance, general orders, Arkansas Treasury Warrants, and a telegram. Included are records from some of the units he commanded. Besides Woodruff, the papers mention Sterling Price and William D. Blocker. Locations mentioned are the Indian Territory, Little Rock (Pulaski County), and DuValls Bluff (Prairie County), Arkansas.

Biographical/Historical Note

William Woodruff, Jr. (1831-1907), Arkansas newspaper publisher and State Treasurer (1881-1890), served as a Confederate artillery officer during the American Civil War. He chronicled his experiences in a 1903 book, "With the Light Guns."
