Biographical/Historical Note

Evan Powell Marks (1839-1898) was the son of Hastings Marks, a pioneer settler of Cleveland County, Arkansas. Evan Marks served in the Confederate Army. After the war, he became a merchant at New Edinburg, Arkansas. He served as Cleveland County Circuit Clerk, 1874 to 1876. Shortly before his death, Marks was appointed to the Arkansas State Board of Charities.
