Description
The collection consists of abstracts of quartermaster returns of military stores of the Union Army during the Atlanta Campaign in 1864-1865.
Biographical/Historical Note
Logan Holt Roots (1841-1893) served as a Union officer during the Civil War. He was the quartermaster for the Eighty-first Illinois Volunteers during the Atlanta campaign. After the war he settled in Prairie County, Arkansas, and engaged in agricultural pursuits, banking, and Republican politics. He served in Congress from Arkansas from 1867-1871. He later moved to Little Rock where he became one of city’s leading citizens.
