Description

This collection contains one broadside, a message during the U.S. Civil War from Brigadier General Ben McCulloch at Fayetteville, to the citizens of western Arkansas, "Now or Never!" "Let every man turn out and form companies and rally to me at the advancing enemy."

Biographical/Historical Note

Benjamin McCulloch was born in Tennessee on November 11, 1811 and died in the Battle of Pea Ridge in Arkansas on March 7, 1862 by a gunshot wound to the chest. He didn't have formal military training, but fought in the Mexican American War with the Texas army. He became a Brigadier General for the Confederate army on March 11, 1861 and was placed in charge of Arkansas troops.
