This collection contains an election ticket for 1872 Arkansas local and national elections, including the Brooks/Baxter Governor's race.

Biographical/Historical Note

The gubernatorial race of 1872 between Joseph Brooks and Elisha Baxter led to the Brooks-Baxter War, an armed conflict that occurred in April and May of 1874. Settlement of the election dispute in favor of Elisha Baxter ultimately ended Reconstruction and the reign of Republicans in the state of Arkansas.
