Biographical/Historical Note
Little Rock College was established by John B. Morris, Arkansas's third Catholic bishop. It was the second attempt to establish an institution of higher learning by the Diocese of Little Rock. The first was St. Andrew's College near Fort Smith, which closed in 1861 due to the Civil War. Little Rock College opened in September 1908. It originally only admitted men, but began admitting women in 1928. It offered courses in liberal arts, mechanics, chemistry, electricity, mineralogy, geology, and astronomy. The college eventually closed in the fall of 1930 during the Great Depression.
