Description
This collection contains one trustee's deed for B. Coflin from Eureka Improvement Company signed by John Carroll, A. Davis and Powell Clayton.
Biographical/Historical Note
After serving as governor of Arkansas, Powell Clayton took an interest in the town of Eureka Springs and formed the Eureka Improvement Company in 1882, just three years after the town was incorporated. Using Clayton's political cache, the Eureka Improvement Company connected Eureka Springs to the rest of the country via railroad, and built the Crescent Hotel, ensuring Eureka Springs' status as a resort town for the 20th century.
