Biographical/Historical Note
The Battle of Prairie Grove was a battle of the American Civil War fought on December 7, 1862. The battle secured Union control of Northwest Arkansas. Today a portion of the battlefield is preserved at Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park, near Prairie Grove, Arkansas.
