Biographical/Historical Note
A cork oak tree planting and dedication by Governor Ben Laney on the capitol grounds occurred on March 19, 1946, in Little Rock, Arkansas. The event was meant to draw attention to the cork oak tree and its uses. The event was part of a campaign by Mr. Charles E. McManus, chairman of the board of the Crown Cork and Seal Company.
