This collection consists of one map of dry weather route of Butterfield Stage Coach through Crawford County, Arkansas, date unknown.

Biographical/Historical Note

Butterfield's Overland Mail Company was the first to successfully carry overland transcontinental mail by stagecoach through Arkansas. It ran from 1858-1861 and was the longest stagecoach line in the world at the time, its length 2,812 miles. It played a major role in the settlement and development of Arkansas and the American West before the Civil War.
